Molten Chocolate Cakes

I am neither a good cook nor calm and collected in the kitchen despite my continued attempts to be otherwise. But I am still thoroughly convinced that the more time I spend in there, the better and more confident I will become. And so... I give you Molten Chocolate Cake that I made for my Dad's birthday this past weekend, which in my case wasn't exactly magical as the recipe described.

I used Ghiradelli chocolate because it is the best!

The final result which looks pretty enough here to post, wasn't very consistent across the 8 different cakes I made. They were super chocolately and semi-delicious but definitely left room for improvement - first thing I'd change was the containers I cooked them in, to give them more depth for the molten lava part! So who's birthday is next?!

Golden SF

I fell in love with the limited edition championship SF Giants hats in gold the moment I saw them, and was so sad about how fast they sold out. And then... I found them at a street vendor near the park. I couldn't be more excited!!!

Striped T-Shirt DIY

A few weeks back I got the privilege of watching Daddy Long Legs at the Stanford Theater... and while the dream sequence has never been a favorite scene of mine, I was struck by the striped shirt worn by Leslie Caron. The asymmetrical stripes had an interest to me unlike most of the other striped shirts I love. So I used it to inspire my DIY striped shirt. And here's how I made it!

 You'll need:
- a white t-shirt
- fabric paint
- foam paint brush
- 1/2 inch masking tape
- brown paper grocery bags

Start by masking off the top and bottom edge of each stripe, the paint will go where the shirt is exposed and not where the tape is placed. I used a ruler to evenly space the tape and make each stripe the same thickness.

Tape together several of the grocery bags, large enough to fit into the t-shirt and pull it slightly taught. This will make it easier to paint and prevent any leaking through to the backside of the t-shirt. (Cardboard will also work if you have a piece large enough).

Paint each of the stripes in the color and pattern of your choice!

Let the paint dry for at least an hour and then remove the tape slowly. Follow any additional instructions for drying and/or heat setting given on the paint you use.

For fun variations of the theme try different thickness stripes and spacing.

Moves Like Jagger

Ever since this performance last week on The Voice, I can't get this song out of my head! Love the opening colors on the screens and love love this song and performance!

Striped Maxi

Yesterday I bought the most fun and easy to wear striped maxi dress...and it was the last one in the store! It reminded me slightly of this one I've been lusting after except without the yellow surprise. Can't wait until it warms up slightly again so I can wear it!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my Dad's birthday! We celebrated with him yesterday but I hope today is especially full of laughter and fun!

Disney Glitter

I was gifted this awesome vintage Disneyland trucker cap this week and thought it went oh-so-well with my Sally Hansen Frock Star Salon Effects glitter nails (remember the gold version). We have a few family birthdays to celebrate throughout the weekend - I can't wait to get my party on! Happy Friday Everyone!

This black & white photo has been staring me in the face and drawing me in all week. So when I saw this geometric pattern they just seemed so fitting together.

Flower Moment

Love this flower moment that happened in our apartment last weekend. Fresh flowers truly make any home feel fresh and inviting. Thanks Mom for always bringing flowers my way!

Magnetic Geography

As a kid I used to collect these fridge magnets from all the states I'd been to - they were always brightly colored, full of really random facts, and most unfortunately disproportionate to the actual state size, in reference to the other 49 states, which meant they never fit together properly. I still have dreams of one day finishing the set of 50, and while I believe a few of my hodgepodge collection still live on my parents fridge (where I so proudly displayed them after each vacation) I think maybe it's time to graduate my collection to this clean and cool wooden USA magnetic map.

Summer Reading List

Now that I feel like summer has officially began, I'm setting out to get some serious recreational reading done this summer. I'm currently in the middle of Into Thin Air and plan to finish that first. These three are next on my list:

1. Breakfast At Tiffany's truly is one of my favorite movies, and while I know every line and the story by heart, I was given this book as a Christmas gift this past year and can't wait to read the original story (and several others) by Truman Capote.

2. Girl in Translation was a recommended read on some blog I read somewhere many months ago and has lived in on my amazon wish list every since. I think it's time.

3. While science fiction reading isn't normally my thing, I've heard too many people say they couldn't put Hunger Games down once they picked it up. And I've been needing another good action read ever since I finished the Girl with a Dragon Tattoo trilogy several months ago.

Any other good summer books I should add to my list?!

Happy Father's Day!

I absolutely love what this photo captures... my Dad has always been a great listener and clearly here I was upset and expressing my deep concern about something to him. Dad, thanks for always being there for me and not only listening but giving great advice. Love you!

My obsession with bulldogs has really grown strong over the past few months... and their photos showing up on pinterest is definitely not helping the "we're not getting a dog anytime soon" cause! But still... these photos were just TOO cute not to share. Enjoy!

Tangerine Dream

This weekend I got my shining moment on the jumbotron at a Giants game! I owe it mostly to my outrageous flailing arm dance moves and bright orange fear the beard t-shirt...which inspired this post. While this tangerine isn't quite the right color to cheer on the Giants, it is definitely becoming a favorite color for me this summer!

1. Mixed Bead Necklace from Need Supply Co.
2. Clare Vivier Fold-Over Clutch (mentioned here)
3. Juicy Couture Terry Tunic Dress
4. Brera Orologi Francesca Watch
5. Adidas by Stella McCartney Tennis Gathered Stretch Tank
6. Dolce Vita Dewey Sandal
7. Multi Bead Bracelet from Need Supply Co.

Love Somebody

This is such a beautiful song... I can't stop listening to it on this mellow Thursday evening.

Denim Dilema

Since my favorite pair of jeans just grew a hole in the knee the size of a frisbee I'm on the hunt for a replacement. Even though I still have three other suitable pairs in the closet I feel like none of them are ready for the upgrade to my go-to pair... I need a new pair to steal the show for the summer. Which of these styles from Madewell do you think would make the cut?

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

As I mentioned last month we got to go to The Railroad Revival Tour for its kickoff concert in Oakland. Finally I edited down some photos to share! We got there super early to give time to take photos with their really cool antique train and spend some quality time on the grass before the doors opened.

{me with the rad vintage neon sign on the locomotive}

 {us chilling while waiting for the doors to open - there was some great people watching to be done from our spot!}

{the view back across the bay was amazing. watching the sunset over the SF city line was breathtaking}

{Old Crow Medicine Show was the first band to come on. what a great way to start the show!}

{the encore included all three bands back on the stage preforming together. there were so many people on stage and such great energy!}

Beach Glitz

I don't often miss that much about LA (except my friends down there!) but what I do miss most often is the proximity to and frequent visiting of the sunny beaches. And while I never personally laid around in a sequin dress - this shot makes me wish I were beaching the weekend away. Happy Friday, I hope your weekend is lay on the beach in glitz worthy!
